Beer and Food; The Best Combination

Restaurants around the UK are serving more beers than ever before and if you enjoy a pint and a delicious meal at the same time, you might be wondering what beer goes with what type of food. The right beer can enhance the taste of food and overall make for a better dining experience from start to finish. It isn’t just wine that you should pair correctly with food so let’s make sure that you get this right!

If you are enjoying a curry, a poultry based burger, a salad or a fruity dessert – it’s best to eat these with a light lager or a wheat beer depending on personal preference. If you are eating a steak, Mexican or barbeque food then pair this with an India Pale Ale (IPA). If you are eating a pizza, fried food, pork or stew – make sure that you are drinking an amber ale or dark lager. On the other hand, if you are eating sausage, sushi or fish, pair it with a brown ale.

For all you porter drinkers out there, this tastes best with seafood, game meats and chocolate based desserts. Shellfish, Mexican food and chocolate desserts also go well with stout. It isn’t the brand of beer that matters so much but rather just the taste. All beers have different textures and flavours which is something that needs to be paid attention to.

In most good restaurants, the waiters will be able to recommend what beers go well with certain meals so don’t be afraid to ask. If you are having steak, request their best IPA for example and you cannot go far wrong.
